Miracle on Turf, Indeed!
by Chris Kamalski
Spain, the European champion, had set an international record with 15 straight victories and had tied Brazil’s record unbeaten streak of 35 games from December 1993 to January 1996. It was the first goal against Spain in 451 minutes, since Turkey’s Semih Senturk scored on April 1, and just the third goal the Spaniards allowed in 17 games dating to last summer’s European Championship.
I have been to 3 matches in the past week in Pretoria (USA v. Italy, USA v. Brazil, Brazil v. Italy), and watched much of this tournament with the rest of South Africa. We are playing insane…much more to come on this, plus photos of soccer madness from Loftus soon.
Miracle on Turf, indeed.
Dad and I watched the last half hour or so on the Internet – USA 2, Spain zero, nada, zilch – though I did feel bad for Spain being so undefeated, kind of like feeling bad for DeLaSalle over in Lafayette’s football team… It’s amazing that #1 you have tickets for the finals, and a big #2, you will watch your country. Wouldn’t it be amazing if it was SA in the finals with the USA?
I was hoping that you were at this game! Wow, US really turned it around in the past two games. I’m totally envious of your ticket to the finals!
Karen! Hello my friend! I knew you’d be following the Confed Cup…How are you? I miss you Michael Ethan and a player to be named later….Email me an update on you guys!
Mom…can’t believe I’m going!
